Havana Cigars

Trinidad - Medium Flavour - . Named after one of Cuba's most beautiful historic cities. Since 1980 The Trinidad has been produced for Fidel Castro in simple cedar boxes of 100. Until 1998 the only boxes that left Cuba were gifts to foreign diplomats. In 1998 the brand was offically launchedas a commercial export. They are made in the famed all woman El Laguito factory. These are the very best cigar money can buy.

Cohiba - Medium Flavour -  Named after what the native Taino Indian word for tobacco, these are some the finest cigars in the world. Created in 1968 for the personal use of Fidel Castro, they were released to the world market in 1982. Made at the El Laguito factory - formely the home of the Prince of Pinar del Rio. Cohiba tobacco leaves  have three fermentation stages which reduces tar and nicotine and enhances finesse. The 'Siglo' range was introduced in 1993 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the discover of Cuba nad tobacco by Columbus.

Montecristo - Medium to Full Flavour - Created in 1934 by the Menendez & Garcia families. It was originally an H.Upmann marque, but in 1935 it was imported into the UK by Hunters & Frankau and the name Montecristo was agreed (after Alexander Dumas' novel which was a favourite to be read to the cigar workers. The 'Count of Montecristo' livery was designed by H&F's director, Jack Benham. Until the Cohiba was pubically available, the Montecristo was the world's most popular cigar. Slightly milder than the Cohiba with an oily wrapper and tangy flavour.

Romeo y Julieta - Medium Flavour - Established in 1875 this is probably the best known Cuban cigar marque. A huge range means that some are inevitably better than others, however some are regarded as the best cigars available.  Romeo y Julieta were the creators of the  Churchill size and appellation, in honour of Sir Winston Churchill which certainly contributed to the brands success in the UK. Romeo y Julietta cigars are superb rich and complex cigars.

Punch - Medium Flavour - One of the oldest brands still in production. Established by Manual Lopez, but more associated with Fernando Paticio. Punch have a noticeably tangy flavour with a woody aroma. As this cigar is moderatley priced it is often avoided, without justification, by cigar snobs!

Partagas - Full Flavour - The second oldest Cuban brand and of superior hand made quality. Established in 1845 by Dom Jamie Partagas. At the same time as establishing the factory, to ensure continuity of supply of the best tobacco, Dom Jamie cultivated farms in Vuelta where the rich red soils produce some of Cuba's finest leaves.

H. Upmann - Light to Medium Flavour - Superior cigar established in 1844 by German, Herman Upmann, who with his borother set up a branch of the family bank in Havana.Initially given by the bank as gifts to European customers, they proved so popular that he decided to invest in a cigar factory.

Jose L. Piedra - Medium to Full Flavour - This is an old brand, rarely seen.  However the marque has enjoyed a comeback over the past few years and not just because of it's keen pricing. It is the only 'bundle' cigar range in Cuba.

El Rey del Mundo - Light to Medium Flavour - Good quality cigar established in 1848. The name means 'King of the World' . Cigars have a subtle aroma. They are made in the same factory - Briones Monoto,  as the Romeo y Julietta marque.

Bolivar - Full Flavour - Superior quality cigar, founded in 1901. The brand lable features Simon Bolivar, the 19th Century Venezuelan revolutionary who led revolt against Spain. The cigars are well constructed, wondefully rich, full bodied with a consistent high quality in both aroma & taste. They age well and have a good draw and even burn. With all this heritage they are strill some of the keenest priced Havana cigars.

Fonseca - Light Flavour- Good quality cigar. A relatively unknown brand, unusually wrapped in tissue paper. This accentuates their characteristic lightness & softness.This is an ideal brand for the beginner, and they are keenly priced. It is the second most popular brand in Spain.
